This year Jeongbal highschool decided to have a day off on 'Teacher's Day. Several schools in Goyang-shi agreed with the decision with concern about bribery cases which might be occurred between teachers and parents.

I'm really ashamed that 'Teacher's Day' has become a uncomfortable day, not a day on which students show teachers their respect and gratitude. On 14th in May, the students' union held a ceremony to celebrate Teacher's Day in Jeongbal highschool. Attending the ceremony, however, I had doubts whether it should continue to exist.

Recently, some people have suggested that we set a date on February for Teacher's Day, since it's reasonable that students show their respect to teachers after closing a year. But we'd better focus on realizing the real meaning of Teacher's Day rather than setting a date but .

In spite people criticize a school with expressions such as 'the collapse of school' and 'teacher's authority and privileges are ruined', there has still remained beautiful interaction between teachers and students. For instance, many teachers consult with students until at night as kindly as ever, some students still send letters of thanks to them, and a few students visit their teachers to introduce their fiance or fiancee.

Considering Teacher's Day just a temporary holiday, we would get to lose it's real meaning before long. It's time for everyone including teachers, students, and parents to reflect on Teacher's Day. And also, a lot of efforts to change misunderstandings are needed. School should take the initiative and set an examples. How about trying to have events agreeing with characteristics of school to make the recognition of Teacher's Day positive again?
